Orchard City is Austin, Cory, and Eckert

Walk down memory lane in downtown Orchard City with shops to buy antiques, fresh fruit, famous local produce, hunting supplies and delicious baked goods.

Fruit Grower's Reservoir in Austin was the first Important Birding Area designated in Colorado, and is listed on the Southwest Colorado Birding Trail. The annual Eckert Crane Days weekend (sponsored by Black Canyon Audubon Society) celebrates the Sandhill Crane migration in Hart's Basin.

Eagle Rock Shelter site in Austin is the oldest archaeological site in Colorado, and one of a few sites in the West that date back to around 13,000 BCE. The site name came from a rock formation above the overlook. The Ute Indian Tribe approved the site name and has also given the government permission to excavate the site.

A History in Fruit Growing

Residents in Surface Creek valley were getting sick from drinking ditch water and (in order to raise enough money to build a water pipeline) three communities (Austin, Cory, and Eckert) agreed to consolidate — Orchard City was incorporated in 1912. Although, it's more common for people to refer to the specific communities.

Old Eckert is a community of historic buildings in downtown Eckert. It includes a church on the national register, a secret society lodge made of stone, an iconic local market, a brick creamery filled with antiques, and the old high school — now selling hunting supplies.
